Welcome!
The TCORS 3.0 - CAsToR Data Analysis and Modeling Core (DAM) created this bulletin to keep you updated on the latest data and resources available through the DAM.

What's new?

Restricted and Public use PATH Wave 7 Datasets are now available

The DAM core has recently made new and updated restricted and public-use datasets available. Based on the latest PATH Study’s Wave 7 Data, these datasets include DAM-derived variables for youth and adults.

Public-use datasets:
UM_PATH_AdultMaster_01152025
UM_PATH_Youth_Master_01212025
Restricted-use datasets:
UM_PATH_AdultMaster_12162024
UM_PATH_Youth_Master_12112024
Highlights from PATH Wave 7

Data collection period: January 6, 2022 – April 2, 2023

Wave 7 is a replenishment sample:

- Adults: 30,801 respondents, including 27,258 continuing adults, 1,740 aged-up adults, and 1,803 new cohort adults
- Youth: 10,834 respondents, including 3,512 continuing youth, 1 aged-up youth, and 7,321 new cohort youth

Interview mode: Telephone & In-person/Field interviewers and Web/Self-administration

New variables available

In addition to the usual tobacco-related variables, the PATH Wave 7 surveys included nicotine pouches use questions. For this wave, we were able to derive three variables related to nicotine pouches for both adults and youth:

- Ever use: UM_W7_A_NVR_nicp / UM_W7_Y_nicpever
- Past 30 days use indicators, any use (YES/NO): UM_W7_A_nicp1_past30/ UM_W7_Y_nicp1_past30
- Nicotine pouches use status in the past 30 days: UM_W7_A_nicpstat_1past30/UM_W7_Y_nicpstat_1past30

In addition...

Oral nicotine product variables are
also available through the DAM
Core in the following datasets:
- MTF – 2023
- NYTS – 2021-2023
- TUS- CPS – 2022-2023
- ITC Adults – Wave 3 (2020) & Wave 4 (2022)
- ITC Youth – Wave 6 (2022) & Wave 7 (2023)
But what are nicotine pouches?
Nicotine pouches are a type of tobacco product made from synthetic fibers that can be used without spitting. Users place the pouches between the gum and upper lip for nicotine absorption, and they are not meant to be heated or burned. These pouches contain nicotine in either nicotine powder or salts, sourced either chemically or from tobacco leaves (Robichaud et al., 2020).

Nicotine pouches come in different flavors, such as cinnamon, citrus, mint, or coffee. Hundreds of communities have prohibited the sale of all flavored tobacco products, including nicotine pouches (Robichaud et al., 2020).
