Chenlan is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor School of Public Health. Dr. Wan is working on Research Project 2 under the supervision of Prof. David Mendez and Dr. Thuy Le. Dr. Wan received her B.Eng. degree in Electronic and Information Engineering from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), Chengdu, China in 2015. She received her M.S. degree in 2017 and her Ph.D. degree in 2024 in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Chenlan’s research interests include modeling, game theory, social networks, machine learning, and healthcare. She’s also interested in animal behavior and human factors. Chenlan aims to understand and model how different types of groups or social networks are formed under strategic settings, by looking at the decision-making process of multiple rational agents. Most importantly, Chenlan’s models provide new insights into real-world scenarios such as LA gangs and bird migration.

Michigan Public Health Launches Master of Science Degree in Computational Epidemiology and Systems Modeling

In this program, students are trained to become highly skilled epidemiologists who can understand and analyze public health problems with mathematical and statistical models.

Epidemiological models and simulation-based analyses are increasingly used to inform public health policy and practice. Notably, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, government agencies, policy-makers and others have used epidemiological models to help inform decision-making and slow the spread of the virus.
