ITC Data
The DAM core is excited to announce the availability of ITC youth data
from 2019 to 2023 and adult data from 2020 and 2022 in the US.
ITC Youth Tobacco and Vaping Survey
The annual ITC Youth Tobacco and Vaping Survey examines e-cigarette and
nicotine product use among youth in the United States, Canada, and
England. Its goal is to enhance our understanding of the factors that
predict youth uptake of these products, and to examine how policy
measures influence the prevalence and patterns of use. The survey
collects data on smoking and vaping prevalence, product and brand
characteristics, purchasing sources, risk perceptions, exposure to
health warnings and marketing, awareness of other tobacco products, and
socio-demographic information.
ITC Adult Smoking and Vaping Survey
The 4CV Survey conducts concurrent biannual longitudinal surveys of
adult (ages 18 or older) smokers and former smokers, NVP users
(recruited since 2016), and heated-tobacco product (HTP; recruited since
2020), snus, or tobacco-free oral nicotine users (both recruited since
2022) in each of Australia, Canada, England, and the United States.
The 4CV Survey is designed to consider the relationship between vaping
devices (e.g., e-cigarettes) and tobacco products and to evaluate and
inform emerging policies on nicotine vaping products (NVPs). In 2021,
heated tobacco products (HTPs) were added to the study; snus and
tobacco-free oral nicotine users were added in 2022.
How can I access this data?
The DAM Core team currently has access to the ITC US youth data from
Wave 3 (2019) through Wave 7 (2023) and the ITC US adult datasets 4CV3
(2020) and 4CV4 (2022). If you are interested in conducting analysis
using these datasets, please contact the DAM Core team.

Tobacco Sales Data
The DAM Core is pleased to announce the availability of Tobacco Sales
Data. This data provides information on Universal Product Code (UPC)
tobacco sales from two main channels: convenience and multi-outlet
stores. The data includes unit sales, dollar sales, and product
characteristics for each UPC, such as the product description, product
type (whether the product is a device or accessory and whether it is
rechargeable or disposable), type of devices, type of accessories,
flavor, nicotine content, and the number of items per unit.
What type of variables are available?
The DAM core processed sales data categorized by state, month, category,
and flavor level. These datasets include dollar and unit sales
variables of cigarettes, ENDS, cigars, nicotine pouches, SLT, and other
tobacco products, which are broken down by type and flavor.
How can I access the data?
Currently, sales data is only available upon request. If you want to use this data, please contact the DAM Core Team.

Authorship Guidelines
Are you ready to publish your work and you would like to recognize the DAM Core Resources, but you are not sure how?
When using DAM Core resources, we recommend the following practices:
- Invite
an analyst to be an author when they were involved in analytical
design, implementation, or interpretation in a meaningful way. Executing
a pre-specified, simple analysis plan would not necessarily rise to
this level.
- Invite a data analyst to be an author when variables that they designed/derived are included.
- Invite the core lead or investigator to be an author if they contributed intellectually in a meaningful way.
Anyone invited to be an author would be expected to fulfill all the usual obligations of authorship (ICMJE).
If individual contributions do not rise to the level of authorship, we
recommend asking those individuals if they would like to be included in
the Acknowledgments.

Dataset Summary Table
Are
you ready to start your analysis but need to figure out the data that
would fit better to your project? We created a summary table based on
all the datasets available through DAM and their basic description,
granularity, data collection, links to technical documentation, main
limitations, data access and links to example papers.
We hope that this table would be helpful when comparing surveys and the information they provide.
Sample codes for exploratory data analysis
The DAM core put together sample code and data from different surveys to
perform exploratory analysis and calculate various metrics, including
weighted count, weighted percent, standard error of the weighted
percent, 95% CI for weighted percent (lower bound of the weighted
percent and upper bound of the weighted percent), overall, and grouped
by age and sex.
These three new features are available on the TCORS website under the Resources tab in the DAM Core Available Datasets.

Center for Rapid Surveillance of Tobacco (CRST) and CAsToR-DAM Core Collaboration
The DAM Core, in collaboration with CRST, has worked on the Data Brief
summarizing the ever- and current-use prevalence of multiple tobacco
products using the data from the PATH Wave 6 and the 2023 NHIS. The DAM
Core plans to extend this work to the other data sources and update the
existing Data Brief whenever new data is released. The Data Brief will
be published with a combined CRST/CAsToR branded logo.
