Selected opportunityInternational Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH) Special Issue: “Health Effects of Emerging and Alternative Tobacco Products” (Call for papers) POSTED: Wed Sep 09, 2020 DEADLINE: Sat Jul 31, 2021 DESCRIPTION: In the last decade, a large number of nicotine delivery products have been developed aimed at curbing the dramatic health consequences of tobacco use for users and bystanders. These products often release less chemicals than cigarette smoke, and thus are promoted as harm reduction products. However, they also may expose users to other chemicals that are poorly studied and/or that may have their own health consequences. Evidence-based knowledge is urgently needed by clinicians to better guide their patients on the use of these emerging tobacco products as a harm reduction strategy, and by regulatory agencies to effectively regulate these products in a way that best serves public health. For this Special Issue, we invite the submission of papers focused on the health effects of emerging and alternative tobacco products (e.g., electronic nicotine delivery systems, heat not burn, novel smokeless tobacco, hookah/waterpipe). This Special Issue seeks original submissions that examine the intersection between tobacco control and tobacco regulatory science on (1) health or health-policy-related discussions, attitudes, and behaviors, (2) critical analysis of the role of tobacco control in improving public health, (3) emerging and alternative tobacco product use among populations with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, cancer, substance abuse), and (4) health effects of emerging and alternative tobacco products, and relevant systematic reviews.
